1984 Unorthodox Essay - 843 Words

The dictionary defines the word unorthodox as â€Å"not conforming to rules, traditions, or modes of conduct† (Unorthodox). Unorthodoxy is a common trait in the book titled 1984 by George Orwell. 1984 by George Orwell is originally written in the year 1949. George Orwell used the time he was present in to predict a future that he believed to exist if his way of living continued. In Orwell’s dystopian novel, 1984, a character named Winston Smith is an unorthodox character in several ways. Winston is an unorthodox member of society physically, emotionally, and intellectually. Physically Winston Smith defies Big Brother through writing in a diary that he bought. Daily Winston writes down his thoughts or questions that he has about the†¦show more content†¦Going out on dates and getting to know a possible love interest is dangerous in the eyes of the government. Winston and Julia began their secret relationship through a note that Julia passed into Winston’s hand as he helped her back on her feet. â€Å"On it (the note) was written, in large unformed handwriting: I love you† (Orwell 108). Julia began this relationship by simply passing a note along and in so doing, causes an unorthodox relationship. Together, Winston and Julia snuck around to different areas surrounding the city and began falling deeply infatuated with each other. Following, Winston and Julia’s relationship is Winston who wants to join the Brotherhood. Winston even drags himself to see O’Brien, a so-called member of the Brotherhood. Winston is so emotionally unorthodox that he answered a series of questions without hesitation: â€Å"’You are prepared to give your lives?’ ‘Yes’. ‘You are prepared to commit murder?’ ‘Yes’. ‘To commit acts of sabotage which may cause the death of hundreds of innocent people?’ ‘Yes’†(Orwell 172). Winston is emotionally unorthodox in the sense he develops feelings for another women and that he is willing to commit horrendous crimes to dispatch the government. Operationalize Customer Experience Management †MyAssignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about the Operationalize Customer Experience Management. Answer: Introduction Toyota Motor Corporation is a known automotive manufacturer with its headquarters Toyota, Japan. The company has a large market capitalization. The corporation is based in the automotive industry and serves every person that is interested globally. The Toyota products include luxury vehicles, engines, automobiles, and commercial vehicles. It offers financing, banking, and leasing services (Raju Walavalkar, 2017). My service experience with Toyota was when my car developed an issue, and I immediately made a call to Toyotas Customer Experience Center. A phone call was made to me on the following day by an assigned case manager who was very helpful, professional, and informative. The case manager full filled every promise he had made to me, and due process followed in resolving my car issue. The experience made me happy and impressed. Nissan Motor Company Ltd is a known automotive manufacturer with its headquarters in Yokohama, Japan. The company is public and based in the automotive and financial services industry. The corporation serves worldwide, and its products include outboard motors, luxury vehicles, forklift trucks, and commercial vehicles (Fujiwara Nagasawa, 2015). My customer experience with Nissan was threatening as the car would stall while driving. I made several reports made to the Nissan customer service, but they failed to diagnose the issue. This was a horrible customer service. Demographic Young student owns a car values time Pain points Spend a lot of money on car repair Car not reliable Car not safe Goals Save on budget Save time Have a good car The "pain" points of the poor customer experience are spending a lot of money on car repairs. The concept of post-purchase touchpoints touches on the aspect of maintenance of products and customer service. The company is to ensure that the clients show satisfaction even after a sale is made. However, when buying a car from the Nissan Company, the warranty given does not cover all the repairs made to the vehicle. The companys customer services during inquiries provide a reply that the warranty cannot cover the costs incurred during the renovations (Peppers Rogers, 2016). Owning a car that is not reliable is the second pain point. In the concept of pre-purchase touchpoints, the Nissan Company should consider the customers wants, expectations, and needs before every decision that they make for the customer before a sale. A perception is formulated by the buyer before buying a product together with an understanding of the expected service (Zolkiewski, Story, Burton Hunter-Jones, 2017). The Nissan brand has a massive consumption of fuel energy, achieving the goals of a customer to cut on costs gets impossible. Demographic Young student owns a car values time Pain points Cost efficient transportation Reliable transportation Good customer service Goals Save on budget Save time Have a good car The "pain" points of the excellent customer experience are cost efficient transportation. The Toyota model is both versatile and fuel efficient. Spending a reduced amount of fuel enables cost saving (Homburg, Jozic Kuhnl, 2013). The concept of service branding promotes competition in the market. Toyota has incorporated mechanisms that are fuel efficient in its product thus creating a positive perception and experience from its clients. The second pain point is exellent customer service. Toyota is both dependable and trustworthy. Its of good quality overall. The concept of purchase touchpoints which considers the customers interactions with both the company and the product is certifying. The issues raised to the company regarding the product are well resolved. The Comparison between Toyota and Nissan experiences In comparing both experiences from Toyota motor corporation and Nissan Motor Corporation and rating both skills on a scale of five, regarding reliability, Toyota scores five while Nissan earns three. The reason being that the Toyota Company takes into consideration the clients needs for a reliable transportation by ensuring that their brand is of outstanding quality. The Toyota model is also credible because its power dependability is higher than that of a Nissan model. Furthermore, Toyota brands are safer than Nissan brands since Toyota has a safety pic+ due to its advanced technology while Nissan has a safety pic (Arkadan, Macdonald Wilson, 2017). When it comes to fuel consumption, the Toyota rates higher compared to Nissan. The use of less fuel improves the ability of a buyer to save on maintenance cost of a vehicle which in turn improves the strength of the client to save more money thus achieving their set goals. The Nissans fuel consumption is high as Toyota is more advanced when it comes to the manufacturing of hybrid automotive. Customer care practiced in both Toyota Company and Nissan Company differs. The Toyotas ratings are higher since the care manager shows efficiency in attending to the clients and ensures that the customer receives the utmost care during their services and is certified when the service comes to an end. However, the customer care services experienced in dealing with the Nissan automotive does not yield the same result. The client is left uncertified and disappointed. The care manager displays little or no concern while dealing with clients during transactions. The customer, therefore, develops distrust and dislike of the brand. The trades made under Nissan take longer than expected and yield no excellent result. On the other hand, transactions and complaints made to the Toyota Company take the shortest time possible before addressing them through the right channels before giving the customer feedback (Edverdsson, 2014). In considering the above, the Toyota motor corporation is better than the Nissan motor corporation a Toyota scores high in cost-saving, reliability concerning fuel consumption, reliability concerning quality, durability, safety pic, power dependability, maintenance cost, advanced technology, and customer care experience. Conclusion In conclusion, the positive and negative customer experience equally depend on the customers expectation of what the end product should be or what they want. A poor customer experience has a direct impact on the products that are perceived to be of poor quality by the client. By having an excellent customer experience, a buyer develops loyalty to the product they associate to be a poor customer experience. Companies should ensure they offer excellent service delivery to have a positive feedback from their clients during the products and customer experience reviews. Reference Arkadan, F., Macdonald, E. Stranger Than Fiction Film Review Essay Example For Students

Stranger Than Fiction Film Review Essay The film, Stranger Than Fiction, is an excellent movie in dealing with the stages of the Heros Journey. The use of imagery is also often used to illustrate the theme. The main character Harold Crick (Will Ferrell) commences on a journey of self-exploration and struggles to find balance. With his presumptuous lifestyle, Harold begins to realize the inner conflict that plagues him. Throughout the film, Harolds actions and decisions depict his growth as a character. With the strong support of imagery within the film, every scene is clearly shown to understand the overall outcome. Not only does Harold begin to change and find balance, the surrounding characters also go through some realizations. The opposing poles in the film are freedom/passion versus order/calculation. Throughout Harolds Journey, I will use visual and aural examples to support my claims. The film begins with Harolds ordinary world: a calculated and orderly man in an isolated world with every action dictated through time. Some examples is that he counts the number of brush strokes when brushing his teeth and the number of steps it takes to get to the bus stop. We will write a custom essay on Stranger Than Fiction Film Review specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Fittingly, Harold works as an IRS agent whose job is using a methodical approach to find accuracy in employees and businesses taxes. His inner conflict is that he allows time to dictate who he is. He battles to stray from his daily routine, finding comfort and reassurance in the precise measurements of his every action. The use of imagery is first shown with Harolds watch. The watch has three important characteristics: it is an instrument of time, a symbol of personification, and a divine power/mentor characteristics. Harold uses the watch to measure every action he makes throughout the day; when he wakes up, when he goes to work, when he returns from a work break, when he goes to bed, etc. The use of personification is that the watch has life-like qualities. The watch has a mind; it thinks that a certain method of tying a necktie makes Harolds neck look fat. Its mentor characteristics constantly conflicts with Harolds ideas and actions and tries to balance him out. The divine power the watch has will be discussed later on. Harold has several calls to adventures that he refuses. The first call is when he hears a voice narrating his actions (Karen Eiffel) while brushing his teeth. He looks at the toothbrush and says, Hello. ? He blatantly resists the narration by resuming his daily routine, like nothing strange just happened. Another resist is at the bakery while performing an audit on the Baker, Ana Pascal. After hearing the voice he utters the phrase, Not now. ? The bakery scene is important to the overall theme because it brings the opposing poles of the movie into contact. During Harolds encounter with Ana, his only concern is to understand why she only paid 78% of her taxes. He methodically uses the IRS guidelines to audit Ana, showing Harolds pole of order/calculation. Ana is on the other pole of freedom/passion. The first scene Ana appears shows her passion. She responds to Harolds audit by using derogatory marks like, miscreant,? and get bent, Taxman! ? She also believes in freedom by not paying the remaining 23% on national defense, corporate bailouts, and national discretionary funds. Later in the film we come to find out that Ana left Harvard law school in order to become a Baker, a career she is genuinely passionate about. Harold is so resistant to change that he curses the heavens. Harold is thrust in the crossing of the first threshold with the news that he will face his imminent death. This news is delivered by the narrator, which the viewer later discovers is Karen Eiffel, who is at first the unknowing author of Harolds life. The news of his imminent death portrays the half-full side of time; its emphasis on the importance of time and doing all your passions while youre living. When he fears the news, he is forced to act and change his orderly life-style in pursuit of answers. .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21 , .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21 .postImageUrl , .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21 , .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21:hover , .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21:visited , .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21:active { border:0!important; } .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21:active , .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21 .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u41f2a9b0aa2dde0503732de316b6de21:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Walt Disney and Mulan EssayThe next stage comes in pursuit of answers; he faces tests, allies, and enemies. In this stage he also meets with his mentor, an English professor, Jules Hilbert. His yearning to some answers, leads to a sit-down with psychiatrist. The psychiatrist reveals that he has schizophrenia and is going to be prescribed medication. He declines treatment and she gives him a recommendation for another alternative (his mentor). It is in the next scene, the narrator Karen, is introduced. Use of imagery is used again in tying in theme with the death of Harolds old ways; Karen jumps off a large building. Karen, who is a critically acclaimed author in dealing with death, is in fact stuck on how Harold Crick will die. Penny (part of Karens publication team) then is asked to intervene. Penny suggests trying a more methodical approach of reading similar works of literature previously written, but Karen insists on spontaneous inspirations. This scene further supports my claims of the opposing poles (Karen-passion/Penny-orderly). After the news of his impending doom, Harold seeks help and comes across an English professor, Jules Hilbert, which provides mentor energy for Harold. Ironically, it happens to be that Professor Hilbert is also the faculty lifeguard and is potentially saving Harold. Professor Hilbert encourages him to cross into the new world with the idea that his life is not only his life, but also a literary work. He narrows down the possibility that Harolds life is a comedy or tragedy. He then asks Harold to test which thematic work it is and it is at that moment, Harold begins to approach the supreme ordeal. To no surprise, Harold still uses his methodically/calculated approach in tallying whether his actions are a comedy or a tragedy. As Professor Hilbert continues to guide Harold, he instructs him to do nothing and remain in his apartment. It is here, when Harold is at the innermost cave (supreme ordeal). While in his apartment, he has to face himself and confront his inner conflict. The presence of death is made clear through the use of imagery. The program on his television set is Animal Planet. In various scenes, it shows animals eating other animals; signifying the death of Harolds old self. Also it shows death literally, by the near death experience of Harold himself, when the bulldozer crashes through the wall of his apartment. His watch acts as divine power, alerting Harold of the impending danger. After the supreme ordeal, Harold is rewarded with a new outlook on life and begins to abandon his old habits and pursue life through freedom/passion. This new outlook on life is used through several scenes of imagery and symbolizes what Harold wants to become. When Harold gives Ana flowers that have yet to bloom, it illustrates his eagerness to grow and live life but just like the bloomless flowers, he has not yet reached his full potential. Another set of imagery scenes is the image of flowers tattooed on her arm and all the images of flowers in her apartment. It symbolizes that Ana is a catalyst for growth for Harold and Ana is the embodiment freedom/passion. On the road back, Harold fulfills one his dormant passions; to play the guitar. When he learns how to play a song on the guitar, it not only sounds great, but in fact brings Ana to fall in love with him. The issue of time is stressed further in the film after he discovers he is in a tragedy that will ultimately lead to his imminent death. As Harold finally meets Karen, she begins to marvel at every detail that she described in the book and also how strange this occurrence is. Knowing Karen controls his fate, Harold asks for her to spare his life and prolong it. Harold then reads the ending of the novel and ultimately accepts his fate by telling Karen to publish it. Symbolically, his attitude toward divine power has changed. Harold began by not accepting his death by cursing the heavens and also the scene where he looks outside through the plastic cover sheet (looking at the outside not through clarity; his mind clouded and preoccupied with his knowing fate). .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad , .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad .postImageUrl , .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad , .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad:hover , .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad:visited , .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad:active { border:0!important; } .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad:active , .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u3dab8ed130db97c81dd11e7baa630cad:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Hitler and the Destruction of Art EssayHarold has changed and is as close to being balanced as hes ever been. The resurrection is after Harold accepts how he will die, by willingly throwing himself in front a bus to save a small boy as it was written in the book. He becomes severely injured and hospitalized. It is then revealed that he will survive and continue to live, because Karen (divine power) decided to change the ending of her story. The film ends with Harold seizing the elixir: a second chance to live but more importantly, to live life with freedom/passion. The Theme of Stranger Than Fiction, is that you start to live a happy life when you pursue your passions and you live freely (knowing you dont control your fate and by not letting something/someone dictate who you are). It demonstrates the opposite; you will live an unhappy life if you dont pursue your passions and try to control your fate. I found the use of two set-ups and a pay-off; the boy on the bike and the bus driver. Before the final encounter that resulted in the near death of Harold, the boy on his bike was the cause of two bus driving accidents; one on the bridge and one in the city.

10 Grammar Mistakes You Should Avoid

10 Grammar Mistakes You Should Avoid 10 Grammar Mistakes You Should Avoid 10 Grammar Mistakes You Should Avoid By Maeve Maddox If you want to write clear, correct English, you certainly need to pay attention to the grammar rules. To help you with that, we collaborated with the folks from Grammarly and Write To Done to create a list with 30 common grammar mistakes you should avoid. Enjoy! Mistake 1: Using whom as a subject INCORRECT: Fire personnel radioed deputies to stop the driver, whom, according to reports, appeared to have been under the influence of intoxicants. CORRECT : Fire personnel radioed deputies to stop the driver, who, according to reports, appeared to have been under the influence of intoxicants. In this sentence, the pronoun is the subject of the verb appeared and therefore requires the subject form who. The object form of who is whom, which functions as the object of a verb or as the object of a preposition: That is the man whom I saw at the window. (object of the verb saw) Did he say to whom he sent the letter? (object of the preposition to) The misuse of whom as a subject frequently occurs when a phrase intervenes between the pronoun and its subject. Be especially careful with such expressions as â€Å"according to so-and-so,† â€Å"in my opinion,† â€Å"one suspects,† etc. Less frequently, but more embarrassingly, whom is sometimes substituted for who when little or nothing stands between it and its verb, as in this sentence taken from a news account: â€Å"An off-duty fireman whom lives in the area provided immediate assistance.† Mistake 2: Unnecessary would in a wish about the past INCORRECT: Ten Things I Wish I Would Have Known When I Was Twenty CORRECT : Ten Things I Wish I Had Known When I Was Twenty The opportunity for knowing the ten things existed in the past, but exists no longer. The tense required, therefore, is the past perfect (had + past participle). Mistake 3: Dangling modifier INCORRECT: At the age of four, Sam’s family moved from Florida, Missouri, to Hannibal. CORRECT : At the age of four, Sam moved with his family from Florida, Missouri, to Hannibal. Modifiers should be positioned as closely as possible to the element they modify. The modifying phrase â€Å"At the age of four† modifies â€Å"Sam,† not â€Å"Sam’s family.† Mistake 4: Subject-Verb disagreement with delayed subject INCORRECT: There goes Sally and Greg on their way to the movies. CORRECT : There go Sally and Greg on their way to the movies. Subjects and verbs must agree in number. When a sentence begins with here or there, the true subject of the sentence follows the verb. â€Å"Sally and Greg† is a plural subject, so the verb go must also be plural: â€Å"Sally and Greg go.† Mistake 5: Incorrect use of object pronouns INCORRECT: Me and my brothers all have college degrees in business. CORRECT : My brothers and I all have college degrees in business. Several English pronouns retain different forms that indicate their function in a sentence. Me is an object form. In the example, it is incorrectly used as the subject of the verb have. Other object forms often used incorrectly are him, her, us, them, and whom. Mistake 6: Incorrect use of subject pronouns INCORRECT: The owner was most kind to my wife and I as we toured the grounds. CORRECT : The owner was most kind to my wife and me as we toured the grounds. I is a subject pronoun form. It is correctly used as the subject of a verb. Its object form is me, which is used as the object of a verb or, as in this example, the object of a preposition (to). Not all English pronouns retain an object form. The pronouns that do have subject and object forms are he/him, she/her, we/us, they/them, and who/whom. Mistake 7: Inappropriate use of reflexive pronoun forms INCORRECT: Jack and myself built the company from scratch. CORRECT : Jack and I built the company from scratch. A pronoun that ends in -self or -selves is called a reflexive pronoun. This type of pronoun refers to a noun or personal pronoun that occurs elsewhere in the sentence. For example, â€Å"He cut himself shaving.† In this example, himself refers to the same person as the one meant by He. A typical error is to use a reflexive pronoun in place of a personal pronoun: INCORRECT: Thank you for everything you did for myself and my family. CORRECT : Thank you for everything you did for me and my family. Note: A more polite usage is to put me last in the phrase: Thank you for everything you did for my family and me. Mistake 8: Incorrect use of did instead of had in certain â€Å"if clauses† One use of the conjunction if is to introduce a clause that states an action that would have changed an outcome. For example, â€Å"If I hadn’t missed the train, I would be in London now.† A common error is to use did instead of had, as in this headline: INCORRECT: [Celebrity] thinks he would be dead now if he didn’t give up alcohol and drugs CORRECT : [Celebrity] thinks he would be dead now if he hadn’t given up alcohol and drugs The person mentioned in the headline actually said (correctly), â€Å"I honestly don’t think I’d be alive if I hadn’t stopped drinking.† The tense required is the past perfect (had + past participle). Mistake 9: Incorrect irregular verb forms Most English verbs form the past and past participle by adding -ed to the base form. For example: walk, walked, (has) walked believe, believed, (has) believed jump, jumped, (has) jumped However, a few high-frequency verbs have irregular past forms, for example: run, ran, (has) run go, went, (has) gone come, came, (has) come Errors with irregular verb forms are becoming common in the media and in articles written by university graduates. Such errors are perhaps evidence that elementary school teachers no longer drill their students on the irregular verb forms. Here are typical errors: INCORRECT: Mary loves to read, has ran for office and has an articulate way of telling it like it is.- Biographical note, KZNU. CORRECT : Mary loves to read, has run for office and has an articulate way of telling it like it is. INCORRECT: Deluna-Martinez is alleged to have went into one student’s account and dropped that student’s classes.- News item, KRCR CORRECT : Deluna-Martinez is alleged to have gone into one student’s account and dropped that student’s classes. INCORRECT: Deep Impact could have just so happened to hit one of these cometesimals, while the gas seen before impact might have came from a different region on the comet with different chemistry.- Scientific article, NASA site. CORRECT : Deep Impact could have just so happened to hit one of these cometesimals, while the gas seen before impact might have come from a different region on the comet with different chemistry. Note: A cometesimal is a â€Å"mini-comet.† Mistake 10: Omitting that when it is needed after say When there is no intervening conjunction, that may be omitted after the verb say: The witness said she overheard the defendant threaten to burn the man’s house down. However, if a conjunction such as after, although, because, before, in addition to, until, or while intervenes between the verb say and its object, that is needed to avoid ambiguity: INCORRECT: Santana said after he stopped recording, he watched for a few more minutes but never saw anyone perform CPR. CORRECT : Santana said that after he stopped recording, he watched for a few more minutes but never saw anyone perform CPR. To what extent advertising affects women Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

To what extent advertising affects women - Essay Example In a more specific term, the paper will critically analyze the effects of advertisement to the female or women audience relative to the use of sex, female models, women as sex objects and the superwoman. Before examining the effects of advertisements to the female audience, it is important to have an overview on what is advertising. In brief, advertising is the tool used to promote a product or a service to the intended market or audience. Advertisements are used to draw the attention of the consumers and prospect market and highlight the importance or the characteristics of the product or service. In the earlier years of advertising, barbershops used strips of red, white, and blue to advertise their services. However, due to the enhancement of technology, many had used every medium platform to advertise. Today, advertising has many forms which come from print to multimedia, and down to social networking websites (Petley 4). In relation to the term gender role, it is defined as the norms of a certain culture that is associated with the male and female. Therefore, in order for advertisements to be effective in a certain culture, advertisers must learn the past, the origin, and the current gender roles of the target audience. In certain societies, men and women have lesser differences; however, there are also societies where the masculine values are considered higher than the feminine values. Nonetheless, according to McArthur and Resk, in most of the cultures, gender roles differ in six major aspects, which include credibility, role, location, persuasive arguments, rewards and product type (qtd. in Ifezue 15). Credibility differs among men and women in most cultures because men are considered more authoritative than women. This can be supplemented by independent roles that man portrays, while women portray roles that are dependent on their relationships with other people. Due to the authority of men,

Aristotle concept of virtue Essay Example for Free

Aristotle concept of virtue Essay The concept of virtue by Aristotle can be attributed to the state of character which he believed lies between two broad extremes which are the excess and deficiency. He believed that virtues falls into two major categories which are the moral virtue and the intellectual virtue. He considered moral values to be associated with feelings, choosing and acting well while intellectual is being acquired. He believed that not all the state of character is virtues and that virtue can be considered the doctrine of mean. This doctrine helps us to determine the actual state of character that is virtuous. He considered character such as lustfulness as not virtue because lustfulness represent an increase feeling of sexual desires or seek for too much sexual pleasure and it lies towards the extreme of excess and not being in the mean which Aristotle considered to be a point that represent virtue. Comparing and contrasting the Aristotle definition of virtue and Socrates definition of impiety and piety. There is no much similarity between the definitions except in that they try to explain the concept of justification in whatever we do. Both definitions relates to what can be considered to be morally good. There are several differences between the two forms of definition. 1. Socrates believe that there are certain fundamental characteristic that makes pious things pious which is different from the Aristotle concepts of virtue which strongly believe in character that lies between the two extremes. 2. Aristotle consider the relationship of friendship to virtues while Socrates believes piety is what god loves and impiety what god hates The better definition might be determined by its application to moral values. Since the Aristotle’s definition explains certain aspects of ethics, I will consider it, the better of the two definitions. Aristotle’s definition relates directly to human life and character and it application can guide the way we act and helps us live better life. Aristotle also consider friendship as being indispensible to virtuous life believing without friendship towards our fellows it is impossible to live a complete and virtuous life. He believes we must be good friends to ourselves before we can show which a concept of â€Å"self love† is. We can only understand friendship when will understand the virtue of oneself. The issue with the relationship of friendship with ourselves and others can be narrowed down to the fact Aristotle believed that virtue brings happiness. Aristotle in summary established a relationship between character, reasons and emotion. He explains the relationship virtues and vices, relationship of virtue to pleasure and to happiness and the notion of moral education. Socrates believes that piety is intimately bound to gods and it is what the gods loves. References Aristotle, (350 B. C. E). â€Å"Book I. In Nicomachean Ethics (W. D. Ross, Trans. ). tempcolon Confronting Colonialism and Imperialism in Aime Cesaires A

Confronting Colonialism in A Tempest   Ã‚  Ã‚   A Tempest by Aime Cesaire is an attempt to confront and rewrite the idea of colonialism as presented in Shakespeare’s The Tempest.   He is successful at this attempt by changing the point of view of the story.   Cesaire transforms the characters and transposes the scenes to reveal Shakespeare’s Prospero as the exploitative European power and Caliban and Ariel as the exploited natives.   Cesaire’s A Tempest is an effective response to Shakespeare’s The Tempest because he interprets it from the perspective of the colonized and raises a conflict with Shakespeare as an icon of the literary canon.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In The Tempest by William Shakespeare one might argue that colonialism is a reoccurring theme throughout the play because of the slave-master relationship between Ariel and Caliban and Prospero.   It is also noticeable through the major and minor changes in status among the temporary inhabitants of the island like Trinculo and Stephano (Brower 463).   These relationships support the theme that power is not reciprocal and that in a society someone will be exploited.   Shakespeare first introduces the idea of colonialism when he allows Prospero to be ruler over Caliban, the native inhabitant of the island.   This is a direct link to the colonization by the Europeans in the late 1400’s.   Caliban reveals this idea of colonization in Act I Scene 2 when he says, â€Å" This island’s mine by Sycorax, my mother, /Which thou tak’st from me†¦For I am all the subjects that you have, /Which first was my own king; and here you sty me/In this hard rock, while you do keep from me /The rest o’ th’ island† (Shakespeare 37).   Shakespeare’s diction in this dialogue as well as in Prospero’s response that fol... ....2001 http://www.britannica.com /seo/a/aime-fernand-cesaire/>    Becker, Zachery. â€Å"Aime Cesaire’s A Tempest†. Report on Erp Review at Sundram Fasteners Essay

The model needs one-time data entry which enables a fast and accurate processing of the data. SAP is based on three-tier client/server model. The anatomy of SAP R/3 is as follows, (1)SAP presentation server, (2)SAP application server and (3)SAP database server. Presentation server: The presentation server is actually a program named sapgui. exe. It is actually installed on a user’s workstation. To start it, the user double-clicks on an icon on the desktop or chooses a menu path. When started, the presentation server displays the R/3 menus within a window. This window is commonly known as the SAPGUI or the user interface. The interface accepts input from the user in the form of keystrokes, mouse clicks, and function keys, and sends these requests to the application server to be processed. The server sends the results back to the SAPGUI which then formats the output for display to the user. Application server: An application server is a set of executables that collectively interpret the ABAP/4 programs and manage the input and output for them. When an application server is started, these executables all start at the same time. When an application server is stopped, they all shut down together. The number of processes that start up when you bring up application server is defined in a single configuration file called the application server profile. Each application server has a profile that specifies its characteristics when it starts up and while it is running. For example, an application server profile specifies. ?Number of processes and their types. ?Amount of memory each process may use. ?Length of time a user is inactive before being automatically logged off. Database server: The database server is a set of executables that accept database requests from the application server. These requests are passed on to the RDBMS (relation database management system). The RDBMS sends the back to the database server, which then passes the information back to the application server. The application server in turn passes that information to your ABAP/4 program. There is usually a separate computer dedicated to house the database server, and the RDBMS may run on to computer also, or may be installed on its own computer. Defining an R/3 system: The simplest definition of an R/3 system is â€Å"one database†. In one R/3 system, there is only one database. To expand the definition, R/3 is considered to be all of the components attached to that one database. One R/3 system consists of one database server accessing a single database, one or more application server and one or more presentation servers. By definition, it is all of the components attached to one database. During an implementation, there is usually one system (or one database) assigned to development, one or more systems designated for testing and one assigned to production. The term R/3 system landscape denotes a description of the number of systems within an SAP installation and how they are designated, such as development, test, or production. The SOP tool (SAP sales and operations planning module) executes the planning procedure for sales, purchase, inventory and forecasts at different levels of production based on plant capacity, storage of materials etc. SOP data such as (1)Period units (days, months, years), (2)Characteristics (company code, plant, materials) and (3)Key figures (sales forecast, purchase and inventory) are contained in the information structure.

Frontier Thesis Essay

US History I Honors Frontier Thesis Jan. 14, 2012 Frontier Thesis Analysis Throughout the early 20th Century, Fredrick Jackson Turner changed many people’s views on evolution by creating his idea of the Frontier Thesis. Throughout his entire thesis he explained that the more west the settlers move, the more distant and individualized they become from their homeland of Europe. After receiving his PhD from Johns Hopkins University and later becoming a professor of history at Wisconsin and Harvard University, he became one of the most intelligent men when it came to history. His encyclopedic knowledge of American history earned him the reputation by 1910 as one of the two or three most influential historians in the country at that time. After completing the US History I class, I can confidently say that I agree with Jackson’s thesis. History has proven that as the years progress so does the evolution of the American people. Not only did people evolve more as they moved west, individuals also established their own religion, government, and educati on system. Religion was a topic that was extremely strict in Europe; it was their way or no way. As more immigrants came to America looking for a fresh start, they realized they had more freedom to do as they pleased, for example, the Mormons. The Mormons were not accepted by many, therefore forcing them to move around the country and expand westward into the unknown territory. The farther into the new territory they went, the farther away they were from anyone who had any say in what they could do. Even though the Mormon religion was frowned upon by many throughout the country and ended up coming to a halt when their leader Joseph Smith died, it was a prime example of how separating from Europe gave people the option to have more of an expression of how they wanted to live them lives. Moving westward showed that the farther west a group of people who were frowned upon travel, the less people wanted to do with them. Government and security were extremely big parts that made the United States become more of an independent country. The United States refused to let one ruler have all of the power, just like they did in England. To prevent this from happening, the US created a democracy. Being controlled by someone who is across an entire ocean made it extremely hard for them to monitor what was going on and moving west made it nearly impossible for the British to even have an idea of what was going on. Putting more distant in between lead to the realization that moving west gave them the freedom of an entire new life. In today’s day and age, the world in which we live in thrives on education. It is proven that the more education that one has, the farther they are able to go in life. Education gives many people opportunities that they otherwise wouldn’t have. Depending where you live, you often learn things very differently. For example, in New Jersey many people know about the Civil War, but if you travel down south the Civil War is not common. Many refer to the war as the War of Northern Aggression or the War for Southern Independence. The more west you travel into the United States, the more the story of the Civil War might also change. The more west an individual may move, the more distant and uninvolved they will become in what is going on in with the majority. Every region of the United States has their own criteria and curriculum; this proves Tuner’s Frontier Thesis because the more distant and spread out over an area individuals become the more different and individuali zed their lives become. Fredrick Jackson Turner’s Thesis does an extremely good job of explaining why life is the way it is today. The more distant that is between two groups of people, the more likely they are to go down different routes in life. As generations moved farther west they became more American by losing the traditions of their ancestors in Europe and creating their own. The newer generations begin to pick up traditions from others around them and combine them with what they were taught. As the years go on, nothing can stay the same. Things and people change, which is just a part of life. It is hard to  remain in contact with people who are half a world away. People were bound to become more Americanized as they moved west, it was just a matter of time.

5 Cases of Insufficient Punctuation

5 Cases of Insufficient Punctuation 5 Cases of Insufficient Punctuation 5 Cases of Insufficient Punctuation By Mark Nichol In each of the sentences below, the omission of one comma (two commas, in one case) obscures the intended meaning. Discussion and revision following each example provides clarity. 1. It’s not a real pleasant experience to tell you the truth. This sentence implies that the writer does not enjoy telling the truth to someone. However, the phrase â€Å"to tell the truth† is merely augmenting the main clause, â€Å"It’s not a real pleasant experience,† and so should be set off from that clause: â€Å"It’s not a real pleasant experience, to tell you the truth.† 2. Believe me they have been working on this this for a long time. â€Å"Believe me† is an introductory phrase that should be set off from the main clause of the sentence: â€Å"Believe me, they have been working on this for a long time.† 3. The important thing is they know what to watch for. â€Å"The important thing† is a dependent clause; like â€Å"believe me,† it must be distinguished from the content of the main clause: â€Å"The important thing is, they know what to watch for.† Alternatively, that may be inserted in lieu of the comma: â€Å"The important thing is that they know what to watch for.† 4. To achieve cultural reform, Smith maintained that definitive actions to redesign incentive structures and establish clear accountability would be the most effective mechanisms. The implication is that Smith came up with his opinion in order to achieve cultural reform. However, what the sentence means is that Smith declared that in order to achieve cultural reforms, the strategy embodied in his opinion should be pursued. To communicate this distinction, â€Å"Smith maintained† should be framed by commas to clarify that it is an attribution interjected in the main clause of the sentence: â€Å"To achieve cultural reform, Smith maintained, definitive actions to redesign incentive structures and establish clear accountability would be the most effective mechanisms.† 5. The study determined that voter fraud was almost nonexistent. Another study by the Brennan Center for Justice at the New York University Law School found that many reports of people voting twice or ballots being cast on behalf of dead people were largely the result of clerical errors. The second sentence implies that a center at the law school released both studies in question. However, if the context makes clear that the second study was conducted at a different location, the description of that location must be treated parenthetically: â€Å"The study determined that voter fraud was almost nonexistent. Another study, by the Brennan Center for Justice at the New York University Law School, found that many reports of people voting twice or ballots being cast on behalf of dead people were largely the result of clerical errors.† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Deregulation of Electricity Markets Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Deregulation of Electricity Markets - Essay Example The regional markets for electricity generation and distribution typically resemble monopolistic markets with few suppliers. However, they have been under the variety of controls imposed by the concerned state in which they operated. These controls had more of social objectives than the commercial objectives. Such social objectives included ensuring uninterrupted power supply at the affordable price for the general consumer. Take for instance the case of California. In the state of California he three monopolistic power suppliers was regulated by the State commission.Kunnapallil(Centre) describes this scenario as follows, â€Å"California’s electricity industry was vertically integrated and organized around three regulated private monopolies or investor-owned Utilities (IOUs): Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E), Southern California Edison Company (SCE), and San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E).These companies owned and operated everything from generation, transmission, and distribution and catered to the electricity needs of consumers in their exclusive franchise areas. California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), an independent state regulatory agency, heavily regulated the prices, costs, and service obligations of these. These three companies together supplied three-fourths of the total consumption†. In the early 1990s, Californian polity came to the realization that its electricity markets were so heavily regulated that the productions process had become inefficient and the producers were passing on merrily the high cost of production to the customers.California cost of electricity was one of the highest in the US at the time. As Beder (2001) states, â€Å"Before deregulation the Californian government set electricity rates and guaranteed the private utilities a set return on their investment. But it was argued that this provided no incentive for the utilities to cut costs. Prices were high compared to some other states, mainly because of cost overruns of billions of dollars on two nuclear power plants.  Ã‚

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS - Essay Example Though the technology is only a few years old, the amount of response it has received, in that short period is so overwhelming. The essay will provide more information on Bitcoin and its importance to the society. Apart from acceptance by many brick and mortar businesses such as restaurants and a number of online services like Amazon, it also uses Bit Coin technology. The most common way in which a person obtains Bit coins is normally through exchange or competitive mining (Shieber, 8). Mining is usually the process where individuals’ services to the network are rewarded. One thing that makes this technology unique is the fact that its mode of payment is easy. Unlike other purchases that require debit or credit card, for a Bitcoin purchase, one only needs a computer or phone (Shieber, 8). Through e-wallet application, one is able to make his payments because the only requirement is the recipient’s address. Bitcoin has a number of advantages. Unlike other financial institutions such as banks that operate from 8am to 4pm, Bitcoin has no such rules. Bitcoin is active at all times through the year, unless the system encounters an error or there it is undergoing an upgrade. Unlike ot her services such as PayPal that charge transaction fees, Bitcoin transactions are normally free of charge, only a small transaction fee is in situations where users wish to have the transactions done faster (Shieber, 9). Bitcoin also ensures that all transactions are secure and transparent. This is because the system is protected by cryptographically; therefore, there is little chance of tapping or altering information in the system. Whereas Bitcoin has many benefits, there are some limitations associated with it. Bit coin is far from being accepted because either people have not yet heard of it or they are still in doubt about this recent invention. Another disadvantage is that Bit coins can get lost in the network. With the massive number of Bitcoin transactions in a

Crim discus unit4 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Crim discus unit4 - Essay Example Edwards F.3 d 117 C. A.8 (mo)1998 (McGraw 2011,para 2). The U.S Circuit Appeal Court upholds the conviction and finds that the District Court did not error in finding the accused guilty. I agree with the innocence project comments because the process of the Court of Appeal errors in stating the facts. The court of appeal misstates that the defendants where first prosecutors suspect while the defendants got arrested after eight (8) years. Secondly, the Court admits evidence of past theft from the Construction Company while there is evidence that nothing got stolen from the site. I agree with the opinion of J O’Connor’s in the case of Virginia v. Black, 538 U.S 343 (2003) (Find Law, 3012, par. 4) that Virginia cross-burning statute, is unconstitutional. The statute provides that, the intention of a person to burn or cross other’s property should be to intimidate. J O’Connor held that some cross burnings area political expression. I disagree with the dissent that the Virginia Statute is Constitutional. The First Amendment of the U.S.A constitution prohibits the making of any law that impedes freedom of religion and infringes the freedom of the press. The freedom is not absolute States can ban expression amounting to threats and unlawful expressions such as pornography. The Virginia statute generalizes burning a cross on others property to be evidence of intimidating hence violating the room for political expression. Therefore, for the statute to declare every burning a cross unlawful and by placing the burden to proof on the defendant remains misplaced and

Why Do Youth Join Gangs?

Why Do Youth Join Gangs? Why do teens join gangs? This is a question many parents ask themselves. There are several reasons why teens join gangs, but ranging from; to fit in or to feel accepted, come from a broken home, being rebellious, these are the most common. Peer pressure is a major influence on some teens decision to join gangs. Teenagers in the world today face more peer pressure than ever before. Gang involvement has been higher in the last ten years. While doing research on teens, I came across a website called Peer Pressure During Adolescence (www.mc.maricopa.eduept/dev/Fall99?peer_pressure/index.htlm). In this reading it states; Two major concerns about the influence of peer pressure are gang involvement and the use of alcohol and other drugs. It also goes onto say that gangs provide a sense of safety not just belonging. The youth are searching for anyone who will listen, even if it means giving in to join a gang. We as parents need to speak with our children and actually listen. The teens of todays generation seem to b more aggressive and persuasive than ever before. We as parents may even feel intimidated by our own children. Can you just imagine how intimidated the children must feel when approached by a gang member? According to the TUSD Department of School Safety, it states that the primary age of gang members ranges from 13-21years of age. It also indicated some common reasons teens join gangs, which listed as: Identity Gang members cannot achieve an identity in their larger community, so they gain culture. They often visualize themselves as warriors against the outside world, protecting their neighborhood. Protection Joining a gang in a community with several gangs offers considerable protection from violence and attack from rival gangs. Fellowship Studies indicate that a tight structure tends to be lacking in the homes of gang members. Gang activity offers that closeness, that sense of family that is often lacking in the home. Intimidation Pressure to join a gang can become very dangerous. New members may be forced to join by threats, violent beatings, and initiations in order to increase gang membership. (www.tusd.k12.az.us/contents/deparment/safty/general.htl) Another reason to be address for teens joining gangs is fellowship. Many would refer to this as a broken home. Maybe the parents got a divorce, or another family member raises the child. Fellowship for instance, as listed above gang activity offers that closeness, that sense of family that is often lacking in the home. This is actually something that parents/guardians can correct in their own household. If people would communicate with the youth there maybe less number of teens, joining gangs. Having a good communication with your children will not only be less likely to join gangs but the drug use and violence standard for teens could also be lowered. Another reason why some teens might join gangs would be to make fast money. There are several reports of gangs robbing people, banks, and other locations. Another thing would be the usage and selling of drugs. If a teen comes from an underprivileged home or even if he/she comes from an extremely wealthy home, the selling of drugs in a gang could bring them fast cash. There are still going to be reasons for the increase number of teens in gangs due to various situations. The excitement factor can be considered. Teens may feel a thrill in the rebellious acts that gangs perform. They may feel as if they are living in a movie or fantasy world when actually it is reality. While belonging or claiming a certain color that their enemies do not like, that can spark interest in a young youths eyes. To have a rush in the crimes gangs commit or just the whole lifestyle in general can capture some teens minds. There are several movies that portray the cool kids as rebellious teens. The wanting to be cool can lead to many troubling situation including joining a gang. It is time for all the reasons and excuses to be done away and have the youth pulled back to reality, in so do by, show them the after effects of the gang life style, and the other options they have in life. In my research, I found a website informing people of their decisions to live the gang lifestyle. The writer Rob Gallardo indicates, One joins a gang for various reasons. However, choosing to continue to live out the gangster lifestyle always involves a series of choices. .choices we make now always correlate to consequences immediately or just down the road. (Operation No Gangs, www.operationnogangs.org) What Rob is saying is that there may be a lot of reasons for teens joining gangs ,the greater concern would be the consequences that could take place resulting in that reason . We need to step up and reach out to the youth of today. The youth will be the next president, vice president, or even a counselor for teens that join gangs. I have a stepson who had a good life growing up, or we thought he did. When he became a teenager, he went down the wrong path so to speak. He stole cars, robbed people, shot at peoples homes while people were inside. Let us just say he was not the same boy we knew. He spent all his teen years in and out juvenile facilities. He came out with several tattoos, and his vocabulary included gang slang. He claimed to be in the MS13 (one of the worst gangs in Texas). When he came out one time, my husband asked him why he was do all the stuff he was doing, his response was a very emotional one. He mentioned the fact that his mother and my husband were not together. My husband tried to explain everything to him. That was one indicator that the choice he made was for coming from a broken home. He now has a son and recently came out of the c ounty jail for breaking probation. Now the choice he makes has a much worse consequence. If we were to interview all the former teen gang members, I am sure there will be several reasons for their choice to join a gang. Peer pressure, fitting in, and coming from a broken home will be the top answers that will be given. Lets try to eliminate these reasons for our youths sake and encourage a positive way of life for them. Do Customers Want a Standardised Product? Do Customers Want a Standardised Product? â€Å"Customers no longer want a standardised product and their expectations determine quality, Differentiation and Customisation should therefore replace standardisation as the way to meet those expectations in the hospitality sector† – To what extent do you agree or disagree this point? It can be seen that customers wants standard quality of commodities and facilities they consume in their day to day life. Change in their needs may sometimes create discontent to the customers and absence of delightfulness can be seen. Along with the product being standardised it is mandatory for that to also be of approved quality. This statement falls true in case of â€Å"High Quality Product attracts more Number of Customers†. One can get benefited by adopting the Standardisation policy as the rules and regulations of the particular company will be the same and hence the procedure of the company runs smoothly as the policies are determined as per the rules. Standardisation helps in getting expected quality of commodities to the customers and their expectations determine the quality which they want to perceive. The importance of Standardisation can be understood by linking it with quality of service perceived by the customers. Customers want better quality of service at standardised level. For example, if in a pizza hut restaurant, one table gets proper personalised attention with quick service and the other table does not get the same level of service when compared then this leads to high quality of dissatisfaction amongst the customers getting poor quality of service. This factor will not create delight to the customers and would not meet their expected standards as well as their expectations. It is not every time that customization proves to be better but also standardization helps customers to fulfil their requirements in their day to day life. Though it is rightly said that customisation means to modify the things as per the customers individual requirement and choice but standardization is to keep the uniformity of the product designed and maintaining its standards. Standardisation means to conform to a uniformly pre-described set of norms, repeatedly by standardizing any product. Standardized product gives better quality of service. As the products and commodities are standardized it becomes easy to provide service in accordance of the same. In other sense customization means making changes in particular product as per the customer’s requirement and desires. This helps customers making their own choice about any standardized product. Customization and Standardization either of two satisfies customers needs in their own terms and services. Considering all such factors customization and differentiation can be replaced by standardization based on some norms and policies. One of the benefits of standardization is the cost effectiveness leading to high price. Compared to pizza hut one can notice the price effectiveness of the restaurant. There are costly dishes in the restaurant which are not actually afforded by lower class of people even if they desire the pizza hut food. Further, if the products and commodities are standardized consistency and uniformity is maintained and it becomes easy to work so the management runs smoothly and efficiently. Adding to this, it is also necessary for a restaurant to plan its future uncertainties and certainties affecting the business. Similarly on other note, there are some disadvantages of standardization affecting the creativity of a personnel working in a particular sector. Referring to Pizza Hut restaurant, it can be observed that as all the procedures and recipes are standardized, this shows death of one’s own personal touch and also kills their creativity. Also for that, to make workers and employees un derstand their work properly it becomes mandatory to provide them with required training and for that high cost is imposed on such activity which leads to increase in labor cost factor. As all the work and the procedures are standardized lack of motivation is being provided to the employees, somehow leading to dissatisfaction for the employees. On other side adopting standardization policy fails to satisfy customers based on their needs and wants as all the things are standardized and no further changes can be made as per their own choice but comparing this to pizza hut, they help us customizing the product we want to some extent. The base of standardization is the policies determined at the time of formation of the standardized products and services. Companies marketing their products and services overseas are faced with the decision of whether to standardize or adapt their product offerings. The standardization of products across cultures is increasingly becoming an important issue nowadays that is difficult to follow for some company. Standardization policy means to sell the same product throughout the world making no changes even at one particular place, as this maintains the uniformity over the world of such company or brand. Adding to this, as all the products are standardized it becomes easy for the manufacturing and production committee to manufacture the products uniformly as per the requirements throughout the world. Doole and Lowe (2008), mainly advocate product standardization. In their observation, Doole and Lowe (2008), point out that the standardization discussion leads at one extreme, a global approach in which everything in the international marketing activity is standardized in all countries as standardizing the various elements of the marketing process has the aim of scale economies in production thereby leading to improved efficiency. As the world becomes smaller and the markets are seen as being the same, others have been advocating a standardized product strategy as they view the market to be the same as it is increasingly becoming homogeneous. Further, Doole and Lowe (2008) point out that if the product is not attractive or appealing to the customers, then no amount of sales promotion, appropriate channel of distribution or reduction in price will help to achieve the marketing target. Hence, physical design, brand name, quality, packaging, durability, taste and services attached to the product are very important from the marketing point of view. It is an obvious thing that a product’s appearance, function, and support make up what the customer will actually buy. Therefore, it is vital for managers to pay close attention to the preferences and tastes of their product packages in addressing their customers. Further, in managing product components, product planning and development entails careful planning with the customer in mind. Thus suggesting that, the decisions are required to be taken regarding product range, packaging, branding, quality, labeling and other features of the product. In the question as to whether to standardize or adapt, a product manufactured for market should be according to the needs and expectations of consumers. Comparing this to pizza hut, it can be seen that if the product is attractive it creates delight to the customers and make them desire about the particular item. A customer gets attract seeing the marketing strategies of the restaurant providing facilities perceived by the customers ful filling their individual desires and wants. In pizza hut we can see that the menu at different branch of it differs and is attractive which attracts more customers and also the advertising element plays a vital role for the same. It is also mandatory for such brand to check whether the qualities of the products they are using are of standard quality or not. According to the understanding of the authors, standardization is a practice of setting identical characteristics for a particular good or service. Lundeteg, A. (2012) also suggests a standardized approach as a â€Å"one size fits all† approach. It can be seen that the standardization of products across cultures is increasingly becoming an important issue that the managers of global firms are facing today. Adding to this, Valdez (2011) points out that those firms following a standardization strategy enter foreign markets using the same advertisements, packages and presentations that were used in the domestic market. Because making new advertisements, packages and product lines is expensive, standardization requires less investment as compared to other such policies of the company. Pizza hut brand also follows these norms, as in our day to day life we can see that the brand is trying to achieve success more by offering affordable offers to the customers also by delivering their desired product at home and also by announcing new products and strategies in the market by attractive advertisements and publicity for the same. Thus, such adoption of strategy helps more customers to attract towards such facilities. According to Kustin (1994) in making a marketing plan, the type of market is important to be considered and additionally the degree of standardization must be thought well. Later on it is indicated that the product standardization plays more of a big role in durable and nondurable consumer goods. Kustin notes that standardization of strategies is better off in markets that are categorized with similarities. He mentions that global marketing attempts for success and competence in standardized product strategies, where products are sold in global markets at reasonable prices and same country strategies are set to be same for all markets in the world. Therefore, it is worth noting that from a company’s perspective it is strongly recommended to reflect standardization strategy when wanting to develop a global product strategy while considering the market characteristics. There is continuous competition in the global market about the better quality of service and commodities provid ed by the different brands like pizza hut, dominos, etc. as the taste, presentation, procedures and the policies differ from one and the other type of brand. The standardization policy in India and foreign countries may differ because of the eat pork. This problem has no solution yet until the approval of permission is done. unavailability of some products in India which are used in foreign countries. For example in India, ban on beef and ham fails to satisfy the needs of the customers desiring for the same which causes dissatisfaction to the customers to some extent, so to overcome this problem an alternative measure has to be taken instead of not delivering the desired product change the design of the product and deliver to the customers making some innovation and creativity. This somehow creates delight to the customers by not fully dissatisfying them. The products offered in pizza hut in India is different from the product being offered in pizza hut of USA because such unavailability of resources in the market. The major issue in the McDonalds standardized products was beef. Hence the biggest challenge to any food business in India de finitely was about balancing the diversity and the product offerings. As such, cow being sacred and worshipped, beef could not be served and in the same vein Muslims did not eat pork. This problem has no solution until the permission for the same is being approved. It is said that there have been international companies, which have introduced their product line across borders using the standardization strategy and have been successful. Standardization helps in achieving the pre described set of goals by following some pre determined policies and the procedures. However, Customization helps in getting the customers what they actually want and in which manner but Standardization comes to a limitation to this which somehow stops customer’s to get what they want and desire for their needs. Thus it makes clear that the motives of standardization should be adopted for smooth and accurate running of the business or a firm. It also becomes easy to follow the norms and policies if everything is standardized. The implicit argument in this article is that whether to replace standardization with differentiation and customization and if, then to what extent it should be replaced. Here, standardization proves to be better than that of customization and differentiation in the products and the commodities. The biggest benefit of adopting standardized procedures is that the work becomes easy and ease of management can be seen which in case of customization does not follows the same. Many problems are faced when the procedures are to b customized as per one’s own requirement at every level of service. Standardization is more beneficial as there are many restaurants or such brands adopting same policies and procedure throughout the world which creates uniformity in following such rules. In other hand, customization does not proves to be this much convenient as standardization because it demands variations in many ways which is not possible for a world wide spread company to follow different procedures at different places. Hence, emphasis is laid more on standardization than on customization. Hence the degree of Pizza Hut’s standardization of their products is greater as compared to any other company. Here by, all the companies should follow the standardization policy for their ease and smooth running of their business. List of References: Doole, I and Lowe, R.
